Bring your bike to our Letterman Shop for tips, to use tools and chat bikes. Each session will include a 15-30 minute lesson.

Presidio Family Ride

Time: 9:30 - 11:00am

Location: Presidio Community YMCA, Main Post, 63 Funston Ave

All ages; participants MUST be able to ride a bike safely on quiet city streets in the Presidio

Enjoy a leisurely bike ride along Chrissy Field and through the Presidio with the whole family.  Led by YBike staff, this ride is kid-, parent-, and family-friendly, but all participants must know how to ride a bicycle, and be comfortable with some riding will on the roads of the Presidio and nearby areas such as Crissy Field.  Helmets required.  Bikes available by prior arrangement.  Contact Mark Middleton to reserve a bike.

Bike Smart, Ride Safe for Kids

Time: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm;

Location: Presidio Community YMCA, Main Post, 63 Funston Ave

Age: Up to 12

This day of bike-inspired fun is designed for kids of all abilities who want to learn skills to help them ride a bicycle more safely.  Learn to ride if you’ve never been on a bicycle before; practice your skills on our SuperSlalom course or balance elements; ride around our mini-neighborhood, Safetyville, to learn about traffic signs and signals and practice riding through intersections; or go for a short ride around the Presidio. Certified bicycle safety instructors will coach participants on street-safety skills specific to young riders, and designed to help them ride safely on San Francisco streets.  Parents are welcome to ride with their children, and are expected to stay on site unless prior arrangements have been made.  Bicycles and helmets provided, if needed.

Bike Smart Bike Mechanics 1

Time: 6:00-7:30pm

Location: Presidio YMCA Bike Shop @ Letterman Gym, 1152 Gorgas Ave

Age: 12+

BikeSmart Bike Mechanics I is designed for new and experienced adult and young adult bicyclists who want to learn enough about how their bikes work to take care of most minor issues, including brake and gear adjustment, flat-tire repair, bike size adjustments, and other simple but essential quick tips you can use to take care of your bicycle. Be prepared to get your hands dirty!
