Interested in volunteering opportunities with Ybike? There are many ways we could use your help!

One great, easy way to assist the work we do is to volunteer behind the scenes. We always need bikes fixed and have occasional “fix our bikes and clear our office” parties. We can make arrangements for all sorts of commitment levels.

Volunteering with our youth bicycle programs is a bigger process (fingerprinting) but can offer opportunities to engage with young people in a tremendously positive way! Depending on commitment levels, volunteering with our programs is great exposure to safely setting-up and supervising young people on bicycles.

  • YBike takes middle-school aged youth on city bike rides Monday through Thursday and we are always looking for more positive role models and mentors to join our volunteer force. Our rides are often from 3-6 pm, sessions run twice a semester and we prefer commitments to the entire session.
  • We facilitate many PE programs throughout the city during the week, during school hours. These are two-week programs we are especially interested in having student teachers and prospective educators tag along for a two-week program.
  • Ybike also offers educational components of the Safe Routes to Schools  programs and puts on bike rodeos (a road course and learn to ride course) during the school day at participating elementary schools throughout the year.
  • We have many unique weekend events where we count on volunteers to help make it happen!  Some of these happen at Sunday Streets and other community events where we set up traffic skills areas. Be sure to let us know if you're interested in helping out some weekend.

Bike to School Day is an annual event where we really need volunteers to help out.

  • Make it happen at your school: Do you work at a school that wants to celebrate Bike 2 School Day? Come to one of our planning meetings at the SFBC office for help organizing at your school. Participate in our poster contest, create a planning team, have meetings, get the youth involved.
  • Bag stuffing: We will be stuffing thousands of bags to distribute throughout the city and need lots of hands to assemble them.
  • Support a commuter convoy: Last year 20+ volunteers woke up super early and met up with groups of excited young bikers all over the city. They biked with the crews from the meet up location (usually less than a mile from school) to their schools or greeted students as they arrivedc at school. This year we are going to need way more volunteers, we want you!
  • Donate incentive products: Do you have 3,000 (or 30) key chains, water bottles, or stickers, that you want to donate to be stuffed in our B2SD bags?

Other donations we always need are healthy snack foods.

We also accept used-bike donations to help us build our fleets.
